Nick Cave | Red Snapper and Lo Fidelity Allstars | Warped Tour 2001 | Soma Holidays, Chump Change, and Atari Champ

The Elementz-May 23, 2001

A group of us went to this new club, The Elementz, where two bands that are friends of ours played.
Soma Holidays is always a pleasure to hear-- they always manage to pull off an ear-piercing, enigmatic set that leaves you wanting more. Their style seems to be settling in a bit... I noticed exagerated guitar work, and Ben, the singer, didn't seem as inhibited as when they played at The Pit.
The second band was terrible, so terrible that Melissa's summary of their performance consisted of, "Wow, they are sucking... sucking for God." (the band, Chump Change, is Christian.) Pop-punk... does anyone really like it? I mean, really? I usually try to stick bands out, but I didn;t really mind when we all decided that it might be more enjoyable to sit outside and watch people during the remainder of their set.
Glorious, hallalujah-inducing fun was had though, when our friends Atari Champ pulled off a seething rendition of Weezers My Name is Jonas. Incidently, I liked that vocal/guitarist Paul's socks did not match. I'm easy that way.
