Steve Martin

I'll be frank--the first time I saw "The Three Amigos", at age six, I developed a crush on Steve Martin. My youthful libido told me, "Hey, that guy is funny...I wanna kiss him."

My crush turned into admiration somewhere around high school. Steve started publishing books and wrote his own movies. He collected art. AND he was a star. Ohhh. I couldn't think of a better role model.

More than once I've had writers block and thought, "What would my dear Steve do in this situation?" and the clouds clear overhead and I am able to continue writing out my grocery list.

I still can't pass up a Steve Martin movie on television, and I ran out and got "Shop Girl" the moment it came out in bookstores. Perhaps my obsession will last forever--or at least one of us dies.
